The Importance of Having Technical Excellence
On a previous blog I wrote a bit of how important it is to have good communication skills and how much it can impact your career in a positive way. However, having good communication skills in my opinion is just one of two very important aspects you need to work on to achieve overall excellence in your career. This second aspect is having technical excellence.
At Pernix we have many resources to improve our technical skills and keep evolving as professionals. We have a site called Pernix Opportunity Market at AirTable where a lot of learning resources are stored and shared with the company. There is a part of it called Main Curriculum where all the most important technical information is stored in order for everyone in the company to access it and study it, all of it is considered fundamental knowledge for everyone in the company to have. There is also another part called Extra Curriculum which is also valuable information and resources that can be very helpful but not as fundamental as the Main Curriculum part. Furthermore, there is another very important tool that we use at the company and it’s called Kanban, this is a collection of cards that every employee or collaborator in the company has that shows in what we are currently working on and what technology is being used. This is a very important tool because if you want to learn about a certain technology that someone else is working on, you can just coordinate with that person to have a pairing session and work on the given task using that technology. This is why it is also important to keep the Kanban updated so everyone can take advantage of this tool to improve their technical skills.
In conclusion, you should always be constantly learning new technical skills, no matter what type of work you do, it will always be helpful, but most importantly it will help you grow as a professional. This along having good communication skills will guide you in the right direction towards professional excellence.
